-If this is all they have to offer (nothing) then the Democrats have already won the next 2 elections!
-Joe Lieberman has really tarnished his political image by speaking at the Republican convention. He should be permanently kicked out of the Democratic party.
-McCain may be a war hero — and tragically was a prisoner of war — his story is tragic and moving ….but that was in another illegal war, Vietnam! I couldn’t help but wonder how many American soldiers are suffering similar physical injuries, because of the Iraq war that McCain supports! Also, how many people have we, the USA, tortured in the past 8 years? (I guess torturing other people doesn’t count)
-Fred Thompson’s speech was sickening. It seemed to me that he attempted to exploit the tragedy McCain suffered, and give that as “the reason” to vote for McCain. Thompson also attacked Obama as not having enough experience…..
but isn’t that the problem…. old politicians, with old Neo-Con dogma? Too much experience at ruining our nation, for the gain of the economic elite?
At one point, before he got into the war hero part of his speech, Thompson seemed to have confused the audience….during the “rebellion” part of the McCain biography. (He was leader of the trouble makers….he had this girlfriend or whatever, before Vietnam) Thompson seemed to have a few old white folks confused….
-I don’t understand McCain’s pick for VP (what’s her name?) from Alaska. Aren’t there other Republican women who have experience, knowledge and reputations that would help increase his chances of winning?
It seemed like a very poor choice.
At times, even the hand-picked audience seemed lost. I do admit, that most of the time they seemed happy, believing in the lies that have ruined this nation for the past 8 years.
The Republicans kept complaining about the government — but haven’t they essentially owned it for the past 8 years of this imperial unelected presidency? During the past 8 years, even after the Democrats won a majority in Congress — Bush has decided to disregard laws he doesn’t believe in — illegally, with “signing statements.” The Republicans own all of this. They ARE the past 8 years that they complained about tonight!
Perhaps I’m being too harsh. Perhaps this upcoming election loss will be the final straw that broke the camels back on the Neo-Con, big government, religious fundamentalist Republican party.
Perhaps this is a good thing. Maybe one day, sanity will return, as new Republicans take over — or perhaps the party even splits in two — after losing the next election or two….
Now, the ball is in Barack Obama’s court. He certainly has my vote. But I will say, he wasn’t initially my first choice (Dennis Kucinich was my choice for Democratic nominee) so — if and WHEN he’s elected, Mr. Obama will need to be tough against the blistering verbal attacks from the Republicans — those few who are elected, who will be very bitter over their loss of the presidency…. but by “being tough”, this means being LIBERAL and PROGRESSIVE and AGGRESSIVE regarding change on all fronts. It means owning that progressive, liberal label, and proving to the public that LIBERAL is not a dirty word.
Mr. Obama, if elected, should be very tough on the budget, cut out the excess military spending, end the war, end the domestic wars, like the war on drugs — and spend the money on the tens of thousands of innocent Iraq war veterans who aren’t currently getting the medical and housing assistance that they need. And, spend this money on rebuilding our infrastructure — and on creating the millions of “green” jobs he promises.
He also needs to solve the housing crisis — and do a whole lot more to avert a larger depression in the economy.
Mr. Obama has a unique opportunity, if elected, to remake this country — into one that is no longer divided by poor v. rich, white v. black, heterosexual v. gay.
He can do this, if at the same time, he fixes the American economy — and ends the status-quo.
Let’s hope Barack Obama is given that opportunity — and makes good use of it. It appears the Republican party is about to elect the first person of color as President, from the opposite party!
